Set the Course for a Success on Your Next Golf Promotion
Everyone knows that sponsoring a golf tournament is a great way to promote your business, and promotional products are an effective way to display your message and your brand. Choosing golf promotions should be easy since you already know one thing that every participant has in common - they golf! Even so, the available options are endless, and there are many factors to consider that can make or break your investment. What products will get used the most? How much money should you spend? What item will reflect your brand the best? The truth is not all golf products are created equal, and it's important that you think about many different aspects of your promotion in order to choose the one that will give you the best results.

Visibility
The success of any promotional giveaway strongly depends on how often it will be seen, either by the recipient or others they come in contact with. If the product with the lowest price is not going to deliver results, then it doesn't matter how much you save initially; in the end it will be a waste of your money.

One of the most common golf promotions is custom imprinted tees, mainly because they are very inexpensive and every golfer uses them. Even so, there are still different options to consider and it's important you make the right decision in order to get the most out of your investment. Forgetting all the less common options, even standard wooden tees have one main variance - size. When it comes to golf tees, size DOES matter. The most common tee sizes are 2 1/8", 2 3/4" and 3 1/4" and the price difference between them is minimal. You may be able to save $20-$30 per thousand, but you won't be doing yourself any favors by purchasing 2 1/8" imprinted tees. As technology has improved and driver heads have gotten larger, most golfers exclusively use longer tees when driving, making the short tees practically obsolete. Occasionally they may be used on par 3 holes that require teeing off with an iron, but even then the majority of golfers will just use broken ones lying around the tee box.

The fact is, regardless of how many logoed tees you hand out, if no one ever sees them you will not get your money's worth. Avoid your brand being forgotten in the depths of a golf bag (or in the garbage) by spending a little more to purchase a product that will actually be used.

Imprint Durability
The method in which a giveaway is decorated can also affect the success of your promotion. For example, a golf towel is a useful product that lasts a decent amount of time, but the price can vary greatly depending on how your logo or design is applied.

While cheap, purchasing a screenprinted golf towel is not recommended. Whether made from terry velour or microfiber terry, the fabric of a golf towel does not provide a smooth surface, which is necessary for a lasting screenprinted image. A screenprinted golf towel may look nice when it's first received, but as the towel is used, the fibers of the printed area will separate, causing the ink to split and chip.

Your best bet for a high-quality, long-lasting imprint on a golf towel is going to be embroidery or dye sublimation. This doesn't mean that the promotion has to cost you a fortune, though. An embroidered golf towel can be anywhere from $4-$20 depending on the size, material and brand.

Perceived Value
Brand names are huge in golf promotions, providing a wonderful opportunity for co-branding your giveaway. Co-branding uses the strength of another well-known brand that serves the same target market, to reap more profits and appeal to more customers. The wide range of golf brands gives you the ability to choose a product that fits your budget while communicating with the recipients on a different level.

Consider golf balls. You can spend anywhere from $14-$65 per dozen, depending on the type of ball you choose. While all brands of golf balls have a variety of styles and price points to choose from, different brands will be perceived differently by the recipients. The one you choose will speak volumes about your company and your own brand. For example, Wilson®, Pinnacle® or Top-Flite® balls say economical pricing for a basic product. Nike®, Callaway® or TaylorMade® balls say good quality and competitive technology without excessive expense. Then there is Titleist® - the cream of the crop. A Titleist® ball says high-cost, high-quality and superior technology, especially the legendary Pro V1. Before putting your logo on any brand name product, be sure the perception of that brand will help strengthen your own.

Actual Value
The product that provides the most value to your customer will also be the one that provides the most value to you. Take divot repair tools for instance. They are a pretty basic product and most golfers will use one at least a few times per game, which makes them a good promotional giveaway. On the other hand, a ball marker will be used by every golfer (when playing with other people) on almost every hole. By purchasing a repair tool that includes a ball marker, you make your giveaway much more valuable to the recipient. Any features that make your giveaway more useful will be worth a small increase in cost, as they will substantially strengthen your promotion.

In addition to the value provided to the recipient, you also want to choose a product that will provide value for your brand. Which product is best for you will depend greatly on your current goals. A nice brass divot repair tool with an attached magnetic ball marker can be used to demonstrate a focus on providing high quality. A multi-function tool that includes the divot repair tool along with a cleat tool, club brush and ball marker could compliment a campaign tooting diversity nicely. Or, if your company is promoting involvement in eco-friendly initiatives, you may want a tool specifically designed to cause less damage to the greens. Regardless of the type of product, your promotion will be most effective if it is consistent with your overall message.

Contributing to the goodie bags given away at golf tournaments is an excellent opportunity to get your business in front of a large group of people, by putting a logoed product in their hands that they will actually use. Choose well, and your promotion will drive huge results.
