Case Study: Awards Reduce Employee Turnover
Predicament
A large software company was looking to develop a "Years of Service" recognition program for its employees. As part of this program, they planned to hand out elegant awards to celebrate key anniversaries including 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 years. The awards would be drop-shipped to various locations shortly before each employee's anniversary. There they would be presented by the recipient's supervisor, along with shares of the company's stock.

Solution
In order to keep the recognition experience consistent for each employee honoree, but still make them feel elite, the software company decided to have a completely custom award created. After considering many different design options presented by their promotional products distributor, they settled on an award made to look like their stock shares with the number of years of service in the center, along with the recipient's name. Packaging was created as well to hold not just the award, but also a card and the stock certificate.

Results
Partially as a result of this effort, the software company reduced employee turnover by 7% in the year following the initial award launch, and 9% in the year to follow. This has been an ongoing recognition program for over 8 years now. They have also implemented other similar programs to recognize employees due to its success.
