RFID Provides New Opportunities
RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) has become a hot topic in recent years. The term describes a system that uses tiny transmitters that work like a bar code or magnetic strip, allowing the information installed on them to be read by a scanner. Unlike a bar code however, RFID devices do not require contact or even line of sight for communication, which allows them to be read from a distance. They can also be read through various non-metallic materials including clothing and even the human body.

RFID technology has become popular over the past decade due to its ability to speed up transactions and easily track objects that move. It has made it much easier for companies to track shipments, locate parts and increase supply chain efficiency. Some of the common ways you may have used it yourself include microchips implanted in pets, employee access cards or an EZPass at toll booths.

Similar to RFID, many companies have begun using radio frequency technology in credit cards, gas cards and other forms of contactless payment. RF chips used for contactless payment are far more secure than RFID chips, as they have the ability to perform cryptographic processing and operate at a much smaller distance. Even so, they can still be read without line of sight or direct contact, which raises concerns about criminals being able to steal both personal and financial information.

In order to combat the potential for identity fraud created by radio frequency technology, many new products have begun popping up on the market. These include wallets, credit card sleeves and passport holders constructed from metals and other materials that block radio waves. In the promotional industry, there are already a number of these products available for custom imprinting, and I suspect many more are on the way.

If you are looking for a promotional product that will create goodwill for your brand, consider choosing something with RFID protection. It is a great way to show customers and prospects that you value their protection and privacy just as much as they do.
